What you need to do is go to the Residence Services and go to Tom Nook’s station. The feature is only available after upgrading Residence Services. From there, you will talk to Tom Nook at the construction consultant station, saying, “Sell some land,” which will cost you 10,000 Bells.

As expensive as these housing plots are, you will earn Nook miles when someone moves into them. In addition, he will give you housing kits which you will place outside to mark where you want to build your house.

How to build houses for villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Once you have received three housing kits from Tom Nook, look around in search of plots to place them. Each housing kit comes with a list of furniture for the houses. The furniture is all made with random DIY recipes, which shall be provided to you by Nook.

Tom Nook will also give you a ladder that you can use to explore the higher levels of the island. The recipe to craft a  ladder requires four wood, 4 Hardwood, and 4 Softwood. Once you have completed constructing it, place it next to the cliff and press A.

Go outside to where you want to build a housing plot. Select your inventory, open it, select the House Kit option, then select Build Here. An outline of where the house will appear on the land. If you are satisfied with the position, select This is the spot. If you want to see what the housing plot will look like, select Let me imagine it.

How many houses can you have?

You can have ten houses in the housing plots that you sell on your island. However, the maximum number of people required in your plot is 10.

The reason behind this is because of the limited amount of space for additional buildings and shops.

When you have placed the three houses in the housing plot, use the DIY recipes given to you by Nook to decorate it with furniture.
