When a horse is tamed and saddled, it can be used for moving around in Minecraft. It also comes in handy when climbing hills or jumping fences. With a good horse, you can jump up to a distance of 5 blocks high.
There are many types of horses in this Minecraft. But which is the fastest of them all?
Types of horses you will find in Minecraft?
When playing Minecraft, you will come across these horses:
1. Normal horses
They are located in the savannahs and plains. For you to ride these horses, you need to tame them first. You can do this by mounting the horse. However, it will throw you off when you mount it for the first time.
Mount and pet it repetitively until you see hearts bubbling on its head. This is a sign that the horse has been tamed.

An easier way to tame a wild horse is by feeding it. It will be fit for riding once you saddle it using its inventory. You can breed two horses by giving each a golden apple.
The result will be a foal. It is untamed and can only be tamed when it has grown with time. You can speed this up by feeding it.
2. Donkeys
They are located in the savannahs and plains too. They are more suitable for labor i.e. they can be used to carry chests and other items collected.
Even though some horses and donkeys have the same speed, you can use speed potions on them. This will increase their speed. You can tame a donkey in the same manner as you would with a horse.
Donkeys can be bred with other horses to produce mules. The breeding occurs once both parties have been fed golden apples.
3. Mules
Mules do not occur naturally. They are a result of cross-breeding between horses and donkeys. They share some attributes with donkeys i.e. they can both be used to carry items.
You can tame a mule as you would with a horse. You will also need a saddle to ride it. However, mules cannot breed.

List of the fastest horses in Minecraft
Every horse has its specific speed and it varies among them. The average speed for horses in Minecraft is:
- Normal Horses: 10 blocks per second
- Donkeys: 6 blocks per second
- Mules: 8 blocks per second
- Skeleton Horses: 5 blocks per second
- Zombie Horses: 5 blocks per second
This makes a normal horse the fastest in Minecraft.
Can you make your horse faster?
There are other ways to increase the speed of a horse such as breeding. A mule is only faster than a donkey because of the normal horse traits in it. A speed potion can also be used in donkeys only to make them faster.
